Iraqi Veterinary Syndicate Continues Enforcing Mandatory Veterinary Supervision in Animal Product Facilities

The Iraqi Veterinary Syndicate, led by Alaa Hussein Al-Hassnawi, is intensifying efforts to enforce mandatory veterinary supervision in factories and retail outlets dealing with animal products

As part of its ongoing efforts to safeguard public health and enhance food security, the Iraqi Veterinary Syndicate, under the leadership of Dr. Alaa Hussein Al-Hassnawi, continues to follow up on the enforcement of mandatory veterinary supervision in food factories and malls dealing with animal products.

In this context, the syndicate addressed an official letter to the Ministry of Health to ensure the implementation of government directives issued by the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers and the Prime Minister’s Office, which explicitly require the presence of licensed veterinarians as a fundamental condition for granting operational licenses to such facilities.

Dr. Al-Hassnawi is personally overseeing this vital file to ensure its effective implementation on the ground, through compiling lists of compliant factories and malls, documenting the data of veterinarians employed in these facilities, and preparing to submit an official report to the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers on the level of compliance.

This step represents a significant professional and institutional achievement, reinforcing the legal and scientific standing of veterinarians within the food safety system and preventing violations that could threaten public health.

The initiative also contributes to several key objectives, including:

  1. Protecting public health
  2. Ensuring food safety
  3. Expanding employment opportunities for veterinarians
  4. Strengthening the syndicate’s regulatory role
  5. Effective implementation of government directives

The Iraqi Veterinary Syndicate reaffirms its commitment to defending the rights of the profession and expanding the role of veterinarians in ways that serve both society and the state.
