In accordance with the directives of the respected President of the Syndicate, the Head of the Dhi Qar Branch of the Veterinary Doctors Syndicate, Dr. Alaa Al-Salihi, and Syndicate Council Member Dr. Ahmed Mohammed met with Member of Parliament from the Sadiqoun Bloc, Dr. Adel Al-Rikabi, to discuss a number of important issues affecting the profession and the rights of veterinarians. The meeting witnessed discussions on several strategic issues, foremost among them the demand for appointing veterinarians to address the severe shortage in veterinary staff, especially in light of the annual health challenges facing Dhi Qar Governorate, particularly zoonotic diseases and hemorrhagic fever, which pose a direct threat to public health and health security. The meeting also addressed the reasons behind the non-activation of the Veterinary Medical Internship Law, emphasizing the necessity of putting it into effect in a manner that guarantees the professional path and employment rights of veterinarians. The discussions also stressed the importance of ensuring fairness for this professional group regarding their legitimate entitlements, particularly the allocation of residential land plots similar to other service sectors. Both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening legislative and executive support for the veterinary sector. An agreement was reached on establishing a serious follow-up mechanism with the relevant authorities to implement the proposed demands, based on the belief in the pivotal role veterinarians play in protecting animal wealth, limiting epidemics, and strengthening citizens’ health security. These meetings come as part of a series of continuous movements and follow-ups carried out by the Veterinary Doctors Syndicate to defend the rights of its members and achieve their legitimate demands.
